Our company has specialized in buying and selling vintage and high-end musical instruments for over 16 years.

Metro Sound, Music & Recording is renowned for providing the music gear that dreams are made of. We have always specialized in vintage and pre-owned equipment and offered our first new product line over sixteen years ago with Mesa-Boogie. At that time, high end amplification was being offered in the same basic brand names by retailers everywhere. Metro Sound changed that tendency by bringing on two additional premiere brand names, Vox and Matchless. The rest, as they say, is history. As always, we pay top dollar for high quality vintage and pre-owned guitars and musical instruments. Be sure to get our offer before you sell to anyone.

Metro Sound is considered one of the most unique music stores on the east coast. Thats due to the full line of services we provide to the musician. Our 40,000 square foot facility features a Martin Guitar Certified Repair Specialist, Band Rehearsal Facilities, Recording Studio - Music Seminar Area, Guitar Amp and Horn Repair Shop and our unsurpassed Music Lessons Department. In 2004, we were awarded Richmonds Best Instrument Store by Richmond Magazine, and have also won sales and service awards from companies like Mesa-Boogie for outstanding sales and service to our customers thoughout the years.
In January 2006, we totally renovated our showroom with all new displays and a new layout creating a more spacious atmosphere, Acoustic Guitar Room and a larger amplifier department. Come see for yourself why we are the first and last choice among the region's serious musicians. Our retail staff is courteous and knowledgeable, seasoned professionals and can give you the right answers the first time.
Please visit us today for a unique Downtown Richmond experience.

History: Past, Present & Future

Metro Sound & Music is an independently owned music store in the heart of the old and historic "President's Row" located in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. Since our inception in 1991, we have specialized in only the highest quality new and used musical instruments and equipment. We are always paying top dollar for quality used musical items! Call us before you sell any old American or British amplifier, drum or stringed instrument at (804)643-7125 or toll-free at (800)587-0033.

We have since moved across the street to our present 40,000 square foot facility.

We've come a long way from when this photograph was taken, but we have never forgotten our humble roots. Come see for yourself why Metro Sound is rated as "Richmond's Best Music Store". We simply have it all here for the true musician!

Currently, this part of town is undergoing a massive renovation and we are excited about all the new plans the City of Richmond has initiated to revive this architecturally abundant area, not to mention the increasingly popular monthly "1st Fridays Artwalks" events bringing thousands of new faces downtown monthly to check out all the new art galleries being created in the area. We are putting our finishing touches on our our own gallery next door - Metro Space Gallery. This massive space will feature regional and local artists, a stage for showcasing acoustic musicians, and also help promote independent film makers.
Our first exhibition featured artists from VCU's "Commonwealth Bricoluers" Master of Fine Arts program from May 4th - 14th, 2007. If you would like more details on how you might be able to participate in this unique venture, please get on our email list or call us for more information. (see our current news page for more information).

At the turn of the century, almost all the local music stores were located within this vibrant 10 block commercial district known as "Downtown" Broad Street. In fact, an extremely rare, special ordered, 1957 Gibson Les Paul Custom in cherry finish, cited in Tom Wheelers "American Guitars" book, was sold at the now defunct "Walter D. Moses Music Store" down the street. It is sad to say that all of those wonderful stores are long gone. However, Metro Sound & Music still carries on business in the traditional way: one sale at a time and one customer at a time.

Since the beginning, Metro Sound & Music has specialized in the finest vintage, new and used musical instruments and repairs. Our mission is to provide the musician with exceptional service and knowledge on all types of instruments. Furthermore, our goal is not to become the largest music store in the world, just the most unique full-service music store around. Few stores offer as many services as Metro Sound offers.

We look forward to meeting you!
