We are now back under the original management that built this store from ground up! It's kind of like getting back to the Pre-CBS days before Fender sold the company back in 65'. Our founder, the guy that started the place over 19 years ago is now back to running the ship! Mark Szafranski, has taken over the reins and is bringing Metro Sound & Music back it back to its original glory days of great quality gear, having a killer affordable recording studio, and a huge selection of high end boutique gear. Our company CEO is also a seasoned session and touring musician. He also brings a wealth of knowledge about vintage and high-end guitars, amplifiers and keyboards! We are filled with more vintage pieces, from old guitars (1966 Fender Esquire) and amplifiers (1955 Fender Tremolux) to some of the best horns made (1954 Selmer Mark VI)

We are buying a ton of used gear, doing more repairs than ever, slashing prices and essentially having a great time again in the rock and roll business! We are doing our best to stimulate the economy! Not to mention, playing music is affordable great fun for everyone that gives back to you over and over! And if you want to learn more we also offer music lessons on most instruments!

That is what makes us unique and keeps us growing and keeps you interested. Also, keep in mind, you'll probably never meet the owner of these fancy chain operations, but chances are you will meet our owner almost any day of the week. You'll find him either restringing a guitar or re-tubing an amplifier, and to some people, that really matters! Mark is a seasoned professional musician, has played on stages internationally, recorded with many groups and fronts his own group "Private Stock" on a regular basis around town. Your patronage here at Metro Sound is felt more in this local Richmond economy than any dollar you spend in some big wigs franchise shop that lives in New York or Malibu. Nothing against New Yorkers or Californians, but hey, its the truth! Support those that support you! In addition to being a full service vintage shop, we have an effective rental program out of our location in Richmond. The best vintage guitars available. We rent stages, guitars, amps, basses, effects, pro audio, recording equipment, pedals, cables, you name it, we rent it!
We carry tons of classic, professional, and vintage equipment in our collection. Our family of instruments is constantly growing and changing. If you are a recording studio or label looking for that specific instrument to get a special sound, our friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you find it. New KAY Guitars Have Arrived!

IN MEMORY OF GARY GERLOFF

The Staff at Metro Sound would like to offer our most heartfelt condolences to the Gerloff family over the loss of one of our favorite customers and musician friend, Gary Gerloff, who passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2009. Gary was a great musician, orchestrator of many musical causes, and just a wonderful friend. I met him as one of my first customers in 1991 when I first opened the Metro Sound. We became fast friends, each having a love of vintage and early period guitars and amplifiers. We traveled together, played in bands together ("The Belligerent Brothers"), and most of all, we had many laughs together.
There are few men as funny, kind and humble as my old friend Gary. I had the luck of finding a video I took of a trip we made to Galax, Virginia for the 52nd Annual Fiddlers Convention about 17 years ago. Stay tuned, I am having it edited and loaded to our webpage for everyone to see soon.
We wish his family well over this very sad and difficult time.
Sincerely,

Mark Szafranski
Owner

Not many stores can offer you a great retail experience with all this vintage gear, but we also offer a huge recording studio here (biggest tracking room in town!) for only $250 for 8 hours! That's right, our Pro Tools equipped studio, with optional Hammond B-3, Wurlitzers, Marshall Plexi's, Blackface Fender's, Leslies and more is now available for only $250 for an 8 hour day (are prices are going back to the early 90's but our gear is right in the present day!) Honestly, folks, if we charged you any less you might as well go back to the living room with your four-track!

You can rehearse your act here for just $250 a month! We offer clean and safe spaces for bands wanting to get serious about playing music and move the show out of the living room! We know you are on a budget and do our best top keep the prices low around here!
